The third Lecture on Frontiers in Humanities organized by the Institute of Advanced Studies in Humanities and Social Sciences (IAS) was successfully held at the Lecture Hall of the Cultural Building (E34) on 12 November 2021 (Friday). Professor Sun Yifeng, the Senior Research Fellow of the IAS and Head of the Department of English of FAH, was invited to give a lecture on the topic “Translational Spaces: Towards a Chinese Western Convergence”, and share his research achievements in the field of translation. Professor Xu Minhui, Associate Professor of the Department of English of FAH, was invited to be the moderator.
The lecture adopted a combination of online and offline mode and attracted over 200 registrants, including professionals, students, alumni, and external audiences within and outside the university. During the lecture, Professor Sun Yifeng discussed the significant theories in the field of translation and introduced the innovative thoughts on translational spaces and cultural exchange between China and the West based on his book Translational Spaces: Towards a Chinese Western Convergence, which deepened the audience’s understanding of translation studies and linguistics. In addition, the lecture aroused a great deal of interest among the audience and there was hot discussion on the topic online and on-site.
This lecture belongs to the cluster of “Chinese Culture in Diverse Cultural Environment” of the IAS. And IAS will continue to launch high-quality academic activities in major research fields, to promote cross-border cooperation and diversified dialogue in various fields of humanities and social sciences, and contribute to the construction of an interdisciplinary, multi-field and high-level university research platform.
