Professor Jeremy De Chavez from the Department of English, Faculty of Arts and Humanities at the University of Macau (UM), has been selected as a visiting fellow under the Cambridge Clare Hall Visiting Fellowship Programme for the Academic Year 2025–2026. He will be conducting research at the Clare Hall from January to June 2026. This selection is a recognition of his efforts and contributions to the fields of Cultural Studies and Postcolonial Studies.
Professor De Chavez has an extensive academic background and research experience, with a focus on affect studies, post-colonial studies, global Anglophone literature, and critical/cultural theory. His work has been published in multiple high-impact international academic journals. In addition, his research interests extend into emerging fields such as Gothic literature in the Philippines, comedy studies and island studies. Through his collaboration with Clare Hall, he aims to engage with scholars in these areas to advance academic progress in these cutting-edge disciplines.
Since 2006, the UM has partnered with Clare Hall through the Cambridge Clare Hall Visiting Fellowship Programme. Starting this year, the programme and related academic collaboration initiatives are being coordinated by the Institute of Advanced Studies in Humanities and Social Sciences (IAS). This programme facilitates academic exchanges and research collaboration between UM scholars and world-renowned scholars at Clare Hall, enhancing the international influence of both institutions. To date, 23 UM faculty members from various research fields have participated in six-month academic exchanges at Clare Hall.
