The 1st lecture of “IAS Lectures on Frontiers in Humanities” organized by the Institute of Advanced Studies in Humanities and Social Sciences (IAS) was successfully held at the Theatre of the Student Activity Centre on September 17, 2021. Prof. Di Wang, the Senior Research Fellow of IAS, Professor of the Department of History, delivered a lecture based on his latest published book, “Entering the Inside of the Chinese City: Exploring History from the Lowest Level of Society”. Prof. Bin Yang, Head of the Department of History (FAH), was invited to moderate the lecture.
To actively cooperate with the epidemic prevention policy, this lecture took the combined physical and virtual participation mode. It has aroused wide participation and heated discussion both inside and outside of the university. Around 580 participants signed up for the event, including professionals, students, alumni, and external audience, effectively promoting academic dialogue and boosting the intellectual atmosphere on UM campus.
This lecture belongs to the cluster of Chinese Culture in Diverse Cultural Environment, aiming to promote the frontier research achievements offered by IAS fellows and foster multicultural exchanges. IAS will continue to hold series of academic activities related to the three Signature Research Clusters – “Chinese Culture in Diverse Cultural Environment”, “New Opportunities at the Intersection of Humanities and Sciences”, and “Macao from a Global Perspective”, to strengthen academic dialogue and exchange.
